Published on 6 February 2023

Recently, representatives from Burmor Construction were joined by guests from Letchworth-based housing association, settle and Calfordseaden, construction consultants for a visit to our LoCaL Homes production facility in Walsall.

The visit is part of settle’s initiative to create more sustainable and affordable housing solutions in their communities across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and South Cambridgeshire. On the day discussions were held about their upcoming project based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire with manufacturing planned to commence in May of this year.

The development in St Ives will bring a total of 94 new homes which will be available for affordable rent or shared ownership. The 64 flats will be built using LoCaL Homes Eco-150 panels and the remaining 30 houses will be built using their Eco-100 system.

Throughout the visit our Sales and Partnerships Manager, Mike Doolan gave an informative talk on the company and the various sustainable off-site manufacturing solutions on offer before leading a tour of the factory floor, to provide a deeper look into the production process of the open and closed panelised systems.

Mike said: “It was a pleasure to get together with the team at Burmor Construction to present our manufacturing capabilities to both Calfordseaden and settle.

“We are proud of our partnership with Burmor and are delighted to be delivering a great range of affordable low carbon homes throughout 2023.”

Ollie Crofts, Senior Quantity Surveyor at Burmor Construction said: “It was great to have the opportunity to bring our client to the factory for the first time and show them the timber panel manufacture first-hand. We have been embracing the fabric first approach for our homes for some time and yet again, using the LoCaL Homes offsite panelised Eco systems for this scheme is going to give a range of programme benefits and provide our client and end users with more energy efficient homes.”

Helen Pearson, Senior Development Manager from settle added: “I’d like to thank Mike and team for taking the time to show my colleagues and I around the LoCaL Homes factory today.

“It’s really impressive to hear and see first-hand how LoCaL Homes are helping contractors and housing associations support our ambition to build more homes through off site manufacturing. I’m looking forward to seeing the panels arrive on our site in St Ives in the coming months.”
