Progress at the Rhonnda Bowl Development as our Eco-150 timber frames are installed

We’re delighted to announce that a construction milestone has been reached at Newydd Housing Association’s Rhondda Bowl development with the installation of our Eco-150 timber frames.

We are working in partnership with construction firm Castell Group and Newydd Housing Association to transform a now demolished bowling alley into a vibrant community offering a mix of one-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom houses for social rent.

All of the 20 new homes at the Rhondda Bowl development are being built using our low carbon Eco-150 off-site closed timber panel systems.

Mike Doolan, our Sales and Partnership Manager said: “We are delighted to be supporting the delivery of new affordable homes in the Tonyrefail community.

“It is great to see our Eco-150 timber panel frames, which have contributed to reduced construction times on site, now installed. We are typically able to erect a pair of houses in four working days with far less waste produced compared to traditional building methods.

“All of the homes at the Rhondda Bowl development will achieve an EPC rating of A, the highest available, partly because of our thermally efficient timber frame panels.”

The completion of the timber frame installation marks a key milestone in the development with brickwork now underway and windows fitted on all the houses. Mechanical and electrical work (M&E) has commenced on the first plots and internal works are soon to be commenced.

The Rhondda Bowl development has been meticulously designed to meet the latest environmental standards, boasting an A-rated energy performance certificate thanks to its innovative non-fossil fuel heating system.

Scheduled for completion in summer 2025, interested residents can register with HomefinderRCT to apply for these sought-after properties.

The Rhondda Bowl, known for its appearance in the popular Netflix comedy series Sex Education, is set to become a thriving social housing scheme, promising comfortable and modern living spaces for its future residents.

Simon Morris, Development and Assets Director at Newydd Housing Association said, “This fantastic scheme is progressing well and we are delighted that the timber frame has now been completed. Providing affordable homes in the Tonyrefail area to the highest energy efficiency standards will provide residents with homes that are safe, warm and affordable. We are very much looking forward to seeing tenants move in.”
