Published on 16 October 2023

Longhurst Group‘s California Road development in Huntingdon has been receiving a lot of attention lately, both locally and within the industry. Its unique design and contribution to the housing crisis in Huntingdonshire has been recognized by the new Huntingdonshire Corporate Plan Strategy, and it has been awarded both “Social Housing Project of the Year” and “Timber Frame Project of the Year” at the Structural Timber Awards 2023.

Recently, construction partner Burmor hosted a demo day at the site to showcase the project’s success. The demo day was led by site Assistant Quantity Surveyor Ciara Ruane-Fountain and was attended by Longhurst’s Sales & Marketing, Maintenance, Housing, and Aftercare teams.

The purpose of the demo day was to provide detailed training on the products and systems that have been used in the California Road development, as many of the employees were unfamiliar with them.

We sent Lee Cox, our Technical Manager, and Mike Doolan, our Sales & Partnerships Manager to represent LoCaL Homes alongside representatives from Kensa Heat Pumps. Throughout the demo day they educated the Longhurst employees on the Eco-200 timber frame systems, explaining the many benefits and answering any questions they had.

The demo day was a success for all involved. We were pleased to work alongside Burmor to provide this opportunity for Longhurst employees to learn more about the California Road development.

The California Road development is a shining example of how innovative design and construction methods can be used to create high-quality, affordable housing. It is also a testament to the importance of collaboration between developers, contractors, and local authorities.

The demo day was a great way to celebrate the success of the California Road development and to ensure that the Longhurst employees who will be managing and maintaining the new homes have the knowledge and skills they need to do so effectively.
